International Competitions Expression of Interest from Players

In 2022 there are three possible International Competitions to which PFA will be able to send representative teams.

This Notice seeks expressions of interest from players who wish to be considered for these competitions.

According to the PFA selection Policy, the process is as follows

  • A Representative Squad will be formed.
  • Players can nominate themselves through their League (or directly to the PFA where no League exists) for addition to the Representative Squad.
  • State Leagues forward their recommendations.
  • Selected players for the Squad must agree to the conditions of selection. See the Selection Policy for more details.
  • The representative team will be selected from this Squad by a Selection Panel appointed by the Board

The following International championships are scheduled for 2022. Please ensure you are eligible to apply before doing so. There will be some financial assistance provided by the PFA to selected players (TBA) but, as in the past, the majority of costs are the responsibility of the players

1. World Championship Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles 12th-15th May 2022 in Denmark.

If you have any questions and/or would like to be considered for this competition please advise your League or contact  JF Veyssiere, National Chair of the Coaches Commission by Feb 25th. His email is coaches@petanqueaustralia.org.au and his contact number 0423 558 415.

2. Trans Tasman Competition. Expected late in 2022. This competition has been postponed twice due to COVID. The teams selected in 2019 are still eligible to retain their selection. Please advise JF if you are still able to attend by April 30th.

3. Oceania Championships Tahiti Sept 26th to 29th.

Australia is invited to send teams to this event. Again, if you are interested in selection please advise your League or contact  JF as above by April 30th.

4. World Men’s Triples Championships December 2022 Benin, Africa

The Oceania Confederation has advised that the three nations that qualified at the 2018 Oceania Championships (Tahiti, New Caledonia, New Zealand) will be the three that qualify for the 2022 championships in Benin in December. Therefore, irrespective of the outcome at the Oceania in September, Australia will not be sending a representative team to this championship.

As mentioned, direct any questions to me or JF (contacts above)
